38:1
Ahmed Ali
SAD. I CALL to witness the admonishing Qur´an.
Shakir
Suad, I swear by the Quran, full of admonition.

اس نامور قرآن کی قسم (ف۲)
38:1 بَلِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ فِى عِزَّةٍ وَشِقَاقٍ ٢
38:2
Ahmed Ali
But the unbelievers are still full of pride and hostility.
Shakir
Nay! those who disbelieve are in self-exaltation and opposition.
Ahmed Raza Khan
بلکہ کافر تکبر اور خلاف میں ہیں (ف۳)
38:2 كَمْ أَهْلَكْنَا مِن قَبْلِهِم مِّن قَرْنٍ فَنَادَوا۟ وَّلَاتَ حِينَ مَنَاصٍ ٣
38:3
Ahmed Ali
How many generations have We destroyed before them who cried (for mercy) when it was too late for escape.
Shakir
How many did We destroy before them of the generations, then they cried while the time of escaping had passed away.
Ahmed Raza Khan
ہم نے ان سے پہلے کتنی سنگتیں کھپائیں (ف۴) تو اب وہ پکاریں (ف۵) اور چھوٹنے کا وقت نہ تھا (ف۶)
38:3 وَعَجِبُوٓا۟ أَن جَآءَهُم مُّنذِرٌ مِّنْهُمْ وَقَالَ ٱلْكَٰفِرُونَ هَٰذَا سَٰحِرٌ كَذَّابٌ ٤
38:4
Ahmed Ali
They were surprised that one of them had come to them as warner; and the unbelievers said: "He is a deceiving sorcerer.
Shakir
And they wonder that there has come to them a warner from among themselves, and the disbelievers say: This is an enchanter, a liar.
Ahmed Raza Khan
اور انہیں اس کا اچنبھا ہوا کہ ان کے پاس انہیں میں کا ایک ڈر سنانے والا تشریف لایا (ف۷) اور کافر بولے یہ جادوگر ہے بڑا جھوٹا،
38:4 أَجَعَلَ ٱلْءَالِهَةَ إِلَٰهًا وَٰحِدًا إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَشَىْءٌ عُجَابٌ ٥
38:5
Ahmed Ali
Has he turned so many gods into one deity? This is indeed a strange thing!"
Shakir
What! makes he the gods a single Allah? A strange thing is this, to be sure!
Ahmed Raza Khan
کیا اس نے بہت خداؤں کا ایک خدا کردیا (ف۸) بیشک یہ عجیب بات ہے،
38:5 وَٱنطَلَقَ ٱلْمَلَأُ مِنْهُمْ أَنِ ٱمْشُوا۟ وَٱصْبِرُوا۟ عَلَىٰٓ ءَالِهَتِكُمْ إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَشَىْءٌ يُرَادُ ٦
38:6
Ahmed Ali
And their leading chiefs said: "Remain attached to your gods. There is surely some motive behind it.
Shakir
And the chief persons of them break forth, saying: Go and steadily adhere to your gods; this is most surely a thing sought after.
Ahmed Raza Khan
اور ان میں کے سردار چلے (ف۹) کہ اس کے پاس سے چل دو اور اپنے خداؤں پر صابر رہو بیشک اس میں اس کا کوئی مطلب ہے،
38:6 مَا سَمِعْنَا بِهَٰذَا فِى ٱلْمِلَّةِ ٱلْءَاخِرَةِ إِنْ هَٰذَآ إِلَّا ٱخْتِلَٰقٌ ٧
38:7
Ahmed Ali
We never heard of it in the former faith. It is surely a fabrication.
Shakir
We never heard of this in the former faith; this is nothing but a forgery:
Ahmed Raza Khan
یہ تو ہم نے سب سے پہلے دینِ نصرانیت میں بھی نہ سنی (ف۱۰) یہ تو نری نئی گڑھت ہے،
38:7 أَءُنزِلَ عَلَيْهِ ٱلذِّكْرُ مِنۢ بَيْنِنَا بَلْ هُمْ فِى شَكٍّ مِّن ذِكْرِى بَل لَّمَّا يَذُوقُوا۟ عَذَابِ ٨
38:8
Ahmed Ali
To him of all of us has the Reminder been sent down?" They are still in doubt about My admonition; but they have not tasted My punishment yet!
Shakir
Has the reminder been revealed to him from among us? Nay! they are in doubt as to My reminder. Nay! they have not yet tasted My chastisement!
Ahmed Raza Khan
کیا ان پر قرآن اتارا گیا ہم سب میں سے (ف۱۱) بلکہ وہ شک میں ہیں میری کتاب سے (ف۱۲) بلکہ ابھی میری مار نہیں چکھی ہے (ف۱۳)
38:8 أَمْ عِندَهُمْ خَزَآئِنُ رَحْمَةِ رَبِّكَ ٱلْعَزِيزِ ٱلْوَهَّابِ ٩
38:9
Ahmed Ali
Do they have the stores of the mercy of your Lord, the mighty and munificent?
Shakir
Or is it that they have the treasures of the mercy of your Lord, the Mighty, the great Giver?
Ahmed Raza Khan
کیا وہ تمہارے رب کی رحمت کے خزانچی ہیں (ف۱۴) وہ عزت والا بہت عطا فرمانے والا ہے (ف۱۵)
38:9 أَمْ لَهُم مُّلْكُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا فَلْيَرْتَقُوا۟ فِى ٱلْأَسْبَٰبِ ٠١
38:10
Ahmed Ali
Or is the kingdom of the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them, theirs? Then let them climb up the ladders (to the heavens).
Shakir
Or is it that theirs is the kingdom of the heavens and the earth and what is between them? Then let them ascend by any
Ahmed Raza Khan
کیا ان کے لیے ہے سلطنت آسمانوں اور زمین کی اور جو کچھ ان کے درمیان ہے، تو رسیاں لٹکا کر چڑھ نہ جائیں (ف۱۶)
38:10 جُندٌ مَّا هُنَالِكَ مَهْزُومٌ مِّنَ ٱلْأَحْزَابِ ١١
38:11
Ahmed Ali
They will be one more army vanquished among the many routed hordes.
Shakir
A host of deserters of the allies shall be here put to flight.
Ahmed Raza Khan
یہ ایک ذلیل لشکر ہے انہیں لشکروں میں سے جو وہیں بھگادیا جائے گا (ف۱۷)
38:11 كَذَّبَتْ قَبْلَهُمْ قَوْمُ نُوحٍ وَعَادٌ وَفِرْعَوْنُ ذُو ٱلْأَوْتَادِ ٢١
38:12
Ahmed Ali
Even before them the people of Noah, ´Ad, the mighty Pharoah,
Shakir
The people of Nuh and Ad, and Firon, the lord of spikes, rejected (messengers) before them.
Ahmed Raza Khan
ان سے پہلے جھٹلا چکے ہیں نوح کی قوم اور عاد اور چومیخا کرنے والے فرعون (ف۱۸)
38:12 وَثَمُودُ وَقَوْمُ لُوطٍ وَأَصْحَٰبُ لْـَٔيْكَةِ أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ ٱلْأَحْزَابُ ٣١
38:13
Ahmed Ali
And the Thamud, the people of Lot, as well as the dwellers of the Wood, had denied. These were the hordes.
Shakir
And Samood and the people of Lut and the dwellers of the thicket; these were the parties.
Ahmed Raza Khan
اور ثمود اور لوط کی قوم اور بن والے (ف۱۹) یہ ہیں وہ گروہ (ف۲۰)
38:13 إِن كُلٌّ إِلَّا كَذَّبَ ٱلرُّسُلَ فَحَقَّ عِقَابِ ٤١
38:14
Ahmed Ali
Of all these there was not one who did not deny the messengers. So My retribution was justified.
Shakir
There was none of them but called the messengers liars, so just was My retribution.
Ahmed Raza Khan
ان میں کوئی ایسا نہیں جس نے رسولوں کو نہ جھٹلایا ہو تو میرا عذاب لازم ہوا (ف۲۱)
38:14 وَمَا يَنظُرُ هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ إِلَّا صَيْحَةً وَٰحِدَةً مَّا لَهَا مِن فَوَاقٍ ٥١
38:15
Ahmed Ali
They await but a single blast which will not be repeated.
Shakir
Nor do these await aught but a single cry, there being no delay in it.
Ahmed Raza Khan
اور یہ راہ نہیں دیکھتے مگر ایک چیخ کی (ف۲۲) جسے کوئی پھیر نہیں سکتا،
38:15 وَقَالُوا۟ رَبَّنَا عَجِّل لَّنَا قِطَّنَا قَبْلَ يَوْمِ ٱلْحِسَابِ ٦١
38:16
Ahmed Ali
Still they say: "O Lord, give us our share before the Day of Reckoning."
Shakir
And they say: O our Lord! hasten on to us our portion before the day of reckoning.
Ahmed Raza Khan
اور بولے اے ہمارے رب ہمارا حصہ ہمیں جلد دے دے حساب کے دن سے پہلے (ف۲۳)
38:16

Ahmed Ali
Bear with patience what they say, and remember Our votary David, man of strength. He surely turned to Us in penitence.
Shakir
Bear patiently what they say, and remember Our servant Dawood, the possessor of power; surely he was frequent in returning (to Allah).
Ahmed Raza Khan
تم ان کی باتوں پر صبر کرو اور ہمارے بندے داؤد نعمتوں والے کو یاد کرو (ف۲۴) بیشک وہ بڑا رجوع کرنے والا ہے (ف۲۵)
38:17 إِنَّا سَخَّرْنَا ٱلْجِبَالَ مَعَهُۥ يُسَبِّحْنَ بِٱلْعَشِىِّ وَٱلْإِشْرَاقِ ٨١
38:18
Ahmed Ali
We subjugated the chiefs (of tribes) to struggle day and night with him,
Shakir
Surely We made the mountains to sing the glory (of Allah) in unison with him at the evening and the sunrise,
Ahmed Raza Khan
بیشک ہم نے اس کے ساتھ پہاڑ مسخر فرمادیے کہ تسبیح کرتے (ف۲۶) شام کو اور سورج چمکتے (ف۲۷)
38:18 وَٱلطَّيْرَ مَحْشُورَةً كُلٌّ لَّهُۥٓ أَوَّابٌ ٩١
38:19
Ahmed Ali
And the levied Tair. They were all obedient to him.
Shakir
And the birds gathered together; all joined in singing with him.
Ahmed Raza Khan
اور پرندے جمع کیے ہوئے (ف۲۸) سب اس کے فرمانبردار تھے (ف۲۹)
38:19 وَشَدَدْنَا مُلْكَهُۥ وَءَاتَيْنَٰهُ ٱلْحِكْمَةَ وَفَصْلَ ٱلْخِطَابِ ٠٢
38:20
Ahmed Ali
So We further strengthened his kingdom, and bestowed wisdom on him, and judgement in legal matters.
Shakir
And We strengthened his kingdom and We gave him wisdom and a clear judgment.
Ahmed Raza Khan
اور ہم نے اس کی سلطنت کو مضبوط کیا (ف۳۰) اور اسے حکمت (ف۳۱) اور قولِ فیصل دیا (ف۳۲)
38:20 ۞ وَهَلْ أَتَىٰكَ نَبَؤُا۟ ٱلْخَصْمِ إِذْ تَسَوَّرُوا۟ ٱلْمِحْرَابَ ١٢
38:21
Ahmed Ali
Have you heard of the litigants who jumped over the wall into his chamber?
Shakir
And has there come to you the story of the litigants, when they made an entry into the private chamber by ascending over the walls?
Ahmed Raza Khan
اور کیا تمہیں (ف۳۳) اس دعوے والوں کی بھی خبر آئی جب وہ دیوار کود کر داؤد کی مسجد میں آئے (ف۳۴)
38:21 إِذْ دَخَلُوا۟ عَلَىٰ دَاوُۥدَ فَفَزِعَ مِنْهُمْ قَالُوا۟ لَا تَخَفْ خَصْمَانِ بَغَىٰ بَعْضُنَا عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ فَٱحْكُم بَيْنَنَا بِٱلْحَقِّ وَلَا تُشْطِطْ وَٱهْدِنَآ إِلَىٰ سَوَآءِ ٱلصِّرَٰطِ ٢٢
38:22
Ahmed Ali
When they came before David, he was frightened of them. "Do not be afraid," they said. "The two of us are disputing the wrong one has done the other. So judge between us with equity, and do not be unjust, and guide us to the right path.
Shakir
When they entered in upon Dawood and he was frightened at them, they said: Fear not; two litigants, of whom one has acted wrongfully towards the other, therefore decide between us with justice, and do not act unjustly, and guide us to the right way.
Ahmed Raza Khan
جب وہ داؤد پر داخل ہوئے تو وہ ان سے گھبرا گیا انہوں نے عرض کی ڈریے نہیں ہم دو فریق ہیں کہ ایک نے دوسرے پر زیادتی کی ہے (ف۳۵) تو ہم میں سچا فیصلہ فرمادیجئے اور خلافِ حق نہ کیجئے (ف۳۶) اور ہمیں سیدھی راہ بتایے،
38:22 إِنَّ هَٰذَآ أَخِى لَهُۥ تِسْعٌ وَتِسْعُونَ نَعْجَةً وَلِىَ نَعْجَةٌ وَٰحِدَةٌ فَقَالَ أَكْفِلْنِيهَا وَعَزَّنِى فِى ٱلْخِطَابِ ٣٢
38:23
Ahmed Ali
This man here is my brother. He has ninety and nine ewes while I have only one. He demands that I should give him my ewe, and wants to get the better of me in argument."
Shakir
Surely this is my brother; he has ninety-nine ewes and I have a single ewe; but he said: Make it over to me, and he has prevailed against me in discourse.
Ahmed Raza Khan
بیشک یہ میرا بھائی ہے (ف۳۷) اس کے پاس ننانوے دُنبیاں ہیں اور میرے پاس ایک دُنبی، اب یہ کہتا ہے وہ بھی مجھے حوالے کردے اور بات میں مجھ پر زور ڈالتا ہے،
38:23 قَالَ لَقَدْ ظَلَمَكَ بِسُؤَالِ نَعْجَتِكَ إِلَىٰ نِعَاجِهِۦ وَإِنَّ كَثِيرًا مِّنَ ٱلْخُلَطَآءِ لَيَبْغِى بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ وَقَلِيلٌ مَّا هُمْ وَظَنَّ دَاوُۥدُ أَنَّمَا فَتَنَّٰهُ فَٱسْتَغْفَرَ رَبَّهُۥ وَخَرَّ رَاكِعًا وَأَنَابَ۩ ٤٢
38:24
Ahmed Ali
(David) said: "He is unjust in demanding your ewe to add to his (many) ewes. Many partners are surely -- unjust to one another, except those who believe and do the right; but there are only a few of them." It occurred to David that he was being tried by Us, and he begged his Lord to forgive him, and fell down in homage and repented.
Shakir
He said: Surely he has been unjust to you in demanding your ewe (to add) to his own ewes; and most surely most of the partners act wrongfully towards one another, save those who believe and do good, and very few are they; and Dawood was sure that We had tried him, so he sought the protection of his Lord and he fell down bowing and turned time after time (to Him).
Ahmed Raza Khan
داؤد نے فرمایا بیشک یہ تجھ پر زیادتی کرتا ہے کہ تیری دُنبی اپنی دُنبیوں میں ملانے کو مانگتا ہے، اور بیشک اکثر ساجھے والے ایک دوسرے پر زیادتی کرتے ہیں مگر جو ایمان لائے اور اچھے کام کیے اور وہ بہت تھوڑے ہیں (ف۳۸) اب داؤد سمجھا کہ ہم نے یہ اس کی جانچ کی تھی (ف۳۹) تو اپنے رب سے معافی مانگی اور سجدے میں گر پڑا (ف۴۰) اور رجوع لایا، (السجدة ۱۰)
38:24 فَغَفَرْنَا لَهُۥ ذَٰلِكَ وَإِنَّ لَهُۥ عِندَنَا لَزُلْفَىٰ وَحُسْنَ مَـَٔابٍ ٥٢
38:25
Ahmed Ali
So We forgave him. He has surely a high rank with Us and an excellent place of return.
Shakir
Therefore We rectified for him this, and most surely he had a nearness to Us and an excellent resort.
Ahmed Raza Khan
تو ہم نے اسے یہ معاف فرمایا، اور بیشک اس کے لیے ہماری بارگاہ میں ضرور قرب اور اچھا ٹھکانا ہے،
38:25 يَٰدَاوُۥدُ إِنَّا جَعَلْنَٰكَ خَلِيفَةً فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ فَٱحْكُم بَيْنَ ٱلنَّاسِ بِٱلْحَقِّ وَلَا تَتَّبِعِ ٱلْهَوَىٰ فَيُضِلَّكَ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يَضِلُّونَ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ شَدِيدٌۢ بِمَا نَسُوا۟ يَوْمَ ٱلْحِسَابِ ٦٢
38:26
Ahmed Ali
"O David, We have made you trustee on the earth. So judge between men equitably, and do not follow your lust lest it should lead you astray from the way of God. Surely for those who go astray from the way of God, is severe punishment, for having forgotten the Day of Reckoning.
Shakir
o Dawood! surely We have made you a ruler in the land; so judge between men with justice and do not follow desire, lest it should lead you astray from the path of Allah; (as for) those who go astray from the path of Allah, they shall surely have a severe punishment because they forgot the day of reckoning.
Ahmed Raza Khan
اے داؤد بیشک ہم نے تجھے زمین میں نائب کیا (ف۴۱) تو لوگوں میں سچا حکم کر اور خواہش کے پیچھے نہ جانا کہ تجھے اللہ کی راہ سے بہکادے گی، بیشک وہ جو اللہ کی راہ سے بہکتے ہیں ان کے لیے سخت عذاب ہے اس پر کہ وہ حساب کے دن کو بھول بیٹھے (ف۴۲)
38:26
