الم
31:1 تِلْكَ ءَايَٰتُ ٱلْكِتَٰبِ ٱلْحَكِيمِ ٢
31:2
Ahmed Ali
These are the verses of the sagacious Book,
Shakir
These are verses of the Book of Wisdom
Ahmed Raza Khan
یہ حکمت والی کتاب کی آیتیں ہیں،
31:2 هُدًى وَرَحْمَةً لِّلْمُحْسِنِينَ ٣
31:3
Ahmed Ali
And a guidance and grace for those who do good,
Shakir
A guidance and a mercy for the doers of goodness,
Ahmed Raza Khan
ہدایت اور رحمت ہیں نیکوں کے لیے،
31:3 ٱلَّذِينَ يُقِيمُونَ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَيُؤْتُونَ ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ وَهُم بِٱلْءَاخِرَةِ هُمْ يُوقِنُونَ ٤
31:4
Ahmed Ali
Who are constant in devotion, pay the zakat, and are certain of the Hereafter.
Shakir
Those who keep up prayer and pay the poor-rate and they are certain of the hereafter.
Ahmed Raza Khan
وہ جو نماز قائم رکھیں اور زکوٰة دیں اور آخرت پر یقین لائیں،
31:4 أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ عَلَىٰ هُدًى مِّن رَّبِّهِمْ وَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْمُفْلِحُونَ ٥
31:5
Ahmed Ali
They are on guidance from their Lord, and will prosper.
Shakir
These are on a guidance from their Lord, and these are they who are successful:
Ahmed Raza Khan
وہی اپنے رب کی ہدایت پر ہیں اور انہیں کا کام بنا،
31:5 وَمِنَ ٱلنَّاسِ مَن يَشْتَرِى لَهْوَ ٱلْحَدِيثِ لِيُضِلَّ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ بِغَيْرِ عِلْمٍ وَيَتَّخِذَهَا هُزُوًا أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ مُّهِينٌ ٦
31:6
Ahmed Ali
But among men are also those who spread frivolous stories to mislead (others) from the way of God, without any knowledge, and take it lightly. For such as these the nemesis will be shameful.
Shakir
And of men is he who takes instead frivolous discourse to lead astray from Allah´s path without knowledge, and to take it for a mockery; these shall have an abasing chastisement.
Ahmed Raza Khan
اور کچھ لوگ کھیل کی باتیں خریدتے ہیں (ف۲) کہ اللہ کی راہ سے بہکادیں بے سمجھے (ف۳) اور اسے ہنسی بنالیں، ان کے لیے ذلت کا عذاب ہے،
31:6 وَإِذَا تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِ ءَايَٰتُنَا وَلَّىٰ مُسْتَكْبِرًا كَأَن لَّمْ يَسْمَعْهَا كَأَنَّ فِىٓ أُذُنَيْهِ وَقْرًا فَبَشِّرْهُ بِعَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ ٧
31:7
Ahmed Ali
When Our verses are recited before them they turn away haughtily as though they did not hear them, as if a deafness had come into their ears. So give them tidings of a shameful punishment.
Shakir
And when Our communications are recited to him, he turns back proudly, as if he had not heard them, as though in his ears were a heaviness, therefore announce to him a painful chastisement.
Ahmed Raza Khan
اور جب اس پر ہماری آیتیں پڑھی جائیں تو تکبر کرتا ہوا پھرے (ف۴) جیسے انہیں سنا ہی نہیں جیسے اس کے کانوں میں ٹینٹ (روئی کا پھایا) ہے (ف۵) تو اسے دردناک عذاب کا مژدہ دو،
31:7 إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ لَهُمْ جَنَّٰتُ ٱلنَّعِيمِ ٨
31:8
Ahmed Ali
Surely for those who believe and do the right are pleasure gardens.
Shakir
(As for) those who believe and do good, they shall surely have gardens of bliss,
Ahmed Raza Khan
بیشک جو ایمان لائے اور اچھے کام کیے ان کے لیے چین کے باغ ہیں،
31:8 خَٰلِدِينَ فِيهَا وَعْدَ ٱللَّهِ حَقًّا وَهُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْحَكِيمُ ٩
31:9
Ahmed Ali
They will abide in them for ever. The promise of God is true; and He is all-mighty and all-wise.
Shakir
Abiding in them; the promise of Allah; (a) true (promise), and He is the Mighty, the Wise.
Ahmed Raza Khan
ہمیشہ ان میں رہیں گے، اللہ کا وعدہ ہے سچا، اور وہی عزت و حکمت والا ہے،
31:9 خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ بِغَيْرِ عَمَدٍ تَرَوْنَهَا وَأَلْقَىٰ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ رَوَٰسِىَ أَن تَمِيدَ بِكُمْ وَبَثَّ فِيهَا مِن كُلِّ دَآبَّةٍ وَأَنزَلْنَا مِنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ مَآءً فَأَنۢبَتْنَا فِيهَا مِن كُلِّ زَوْجٍ كَرِيمٍ ٠١
31:10
Ahmed Ali
He created the skies without a support, as you can see, and placed stabilisers in the earth that you may dwell at ease as it revolves; and dispersed on it all varieties of creatures, and He sent down water from the skies and grew all kinds of splendid things upon it.
Shakir
He created the heavens without pillars as you see them, and put mountains upon the earth lest it might convulse with you, and He spread in it animals of every kind; and We sent down water from the cloud, then caused to grow therein (vegetation) of every noble kind.
Ahmed Raza Khan
اس نے آسمان بنائے بے ایسے ستونوں کے جو تمہیں نظر آئیں (ف۶) اور زمین میں ڈالے لنگر (ف۷) کہ تمہیں لے کر نہ کانپے اور اس میں ہر قسم کے جانور پھیلائے، اور ہم نے آسمان سے پانی اتارا (ف۸) تو زمین میں ہر نفیس جوڑا اگایا (ف۹)
31:10 هَٰذَا خَلْقُ ٱللَّهِ فَأَرُونِى مَاذَا خَلَقَ ٱلَّذِينَ مِن دُونِهِۦ بَلِ ٱلظَّٰلِمُونَ فِى ضَلَٰلٍ مُّبِينٍ ١١
31:11
Ahmed Ali
Such is God´s creation. Show me now what those (they worship) beside Him have created. Surely the evil-doers are in clear error.
Shakir
This is Allah´s creation, but show Me what those besides Him have created. Nay, the unjust are in manifest error
Ahmed Raza Khan
یہ تو اللہ کا بنایا ہوا ہے (ف۱۰) مجھے وہ دکھاؤ (ف۱۱) جو اس کے سوا اوروں نے بنایا (ف۱۲) بلکہ ظالم کھلی گمراہی میں ہیں،

وَلَقَدْ
ءَاتَيْنَا
لُقْمَٰنَ
ٱلْحِكْمَةَ
أَنِ
ٱشْكُرْ
لِلَّهِ
وَمَن
يَشْكُرْ
فَإِنَّمَا
يَشْكُرُ
لِنَفْسِهِۦ
وَمَن
كَفَرَ
فَإِنَّ
ٱللَّهَ
غَنِىٌّ
حَمِيدٌ

Ahmed Ali
We bestowed wisdom on Luqman that he may be grateful to God. Whosoever is grateful is so for his own good, and whoever is ungrateful (should remember) that God is above all concern, worthy of praise.
Shakir
And certainly We gave wisdom to Luqman, saying: Be grateful to Allah. And whoever is grateful, he is on!y grateful for his own soul; and whoever is ungrateful, then surely Allah is Self-sufficient, Praised.
Ahmed Raza Khan
اور بیشک ہم نے لقمان کو حکمت عطا فرمائی (ف۱۳) کہ اللہ کا شکر کر (ف۱۴) اور جو شکر کرے وہ اپنے بھلے کو شکر کرتا ہے (ف۱۵) اور جو ناشکری کرے تو بیشک اللہ بے پرواہ ہے سب خوبیاں سراہا،
31:12 وَإِذْ قَالَ لُقْمَٰنُ لِٱبْنِهِۦ وَهُوَ يَعِظُهُۥ يَٰبُنَىَّ لَا تُشْرِكْ بِٱللَّهِ إِنَّ ٱلشِّرْكَ لَظُلْمٌ عَظِيمٌ ٣١
31:13
Ahmed Ali
(Remember) when Luqman counselled his son: "O son, do not associate any one with God. To associate others with God is a grievous wrong."
Shakir
And when Luqman said to his son while he admonished him: O my son! do not associate aught with Allah; most surely polytheism is a grievous iniquity--
Ahmed Raza Khan
اور یاد کرو جب لقمان نے اپنے بیٹے سے کہا اور وہ نصیحت کرتا تھا (ف۱۶) اے میرے بیٹے اللہ کا کسی کو شریک نہ کرنا، بیشک شرک بڑا ظلم ہے (ف۱۷)
31:13 وَوَصَّيْنَا ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ بِوَٰلِدَيْهِ حَمَلَتْهُ أُمُّهُۥ وَهْنًا عَلَىٰ وَهْنٍ وَفِصَٰلُهُۥ فِى عَامَيْنِ أَنِ ٱشْكُرْ لِى وَلِوَٰلِدَيْكَ إِلَىَّ ٱلْمَصِيرُ ٤١
31:14
Ahmed Ali
We have committed man about his parents. His mother carries him in her womb in weakness and debility, weaning him in two years. So he should be grateful to Me and his parents. To Me is the journeying back.
Shakir
And We have enjoined man in respect of his parents-- his mother bears him with faintings upon faintings and his weaning takes two years-- saying: Be grateful to Me and to both your parents; to Me is the eventual coming.
Ahmed Raza Khan
اور ہم نے آدمی کو اس کے ماں باپ کے بارے میں تاکید فرمائی (ف۱۸) اس کی ماں نے اسے پیٹ میں رکھا کمزوری پر کمزوری جھیلتی ہوئی (ف۱۹) اور اس کا دودھ چھوٹنا دو برس میں ہے یہ کہ حق مان میرا اور اپنے ماں باپ کا (ف۲۰) آخر مجھی تک آنا ہے،
31:14 وَإِن جَٰهَدَاكَ عَلَىٰٓ أَن تُشْرِكَ بِى مَا لَيْسَ لَكَ بِهِۦ عِلْمٌ فَلَا تُطِعْهُمَا وَصَاحِبْهُمَا فِى ٱلدُّنْيَا مَعْرُوفًا وَٱتَّبِعْ سَبِيلَ مَنْ أَنَابَ إِلَىَّ ثُمَّ إِلَىَّ مَرْجِعُكُمْ فَأُنَبِّئُكُم بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ ٥١
31:15
Ahmed Ali
If they try to force you to associate with Me that of which you have no knowledge, do not obey them. Live with them honourably in the world, but follow the way of him who turns to Me. Your returning is to Me in the end, when I will tell you what you did.
Shakir
And if they contend with you that you should associate with Me what you have no knowledge of, do not obey them, and keep company with them in this world kindly, and follow the way of him who turns to Me, then to Me is your return, then will I inform you of what you did--
Ahmed Raza Khan
اور اگر وہ دونوں تجھ سے کوشش کریں کہ میرا شریک ٹھہرائے ایسی چیز کو جس کا تجھے علم نہیں (ف۲۱) تو ان کا کہنا نہ مان (ف۲۲) اور دنیا میں اچھی طرح ان کا ساتھ دے (ف۲۳) اور اس کی راہ چل جو میری طرف رجوع لایا (ف۲۴) پھر میری ہی طرف تمہیں پھر آنا ہے تو میں بتادوں گا جو تم کرتے تھے (ف۲۵)
31:15 يَٰبُنَىَّ إِنَّهَآ إِن تَكُ مِثْقَالَ حَبَّةٍ مِّنْ خَرْدَلٍ فَتَكُن فِى صَخْرَةٍ أَوْ فِى ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ أَوْ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ يَأْتِ بِهَا ٱللَّهُ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَطِيفٌ خَبِيرٌ ٦١
31:16
Ahmed Ali
"O my son, whatsoever it may be, even though equal to a mustard seed in weight, or within a rock or in the sky or in the earth, God will bring it forth. Verily God is perceptive, all-aware.
Shakir
O my son! surely if it is the very weight of the grain of a mustard-seed, even though it is in (the heart of) rock, or (high above) in the heaven or (deep down) in the earth, Allah will bring it (to light); surely Allah is Knower of subtleties, Aware;
Ahmed Raza Khan
اے میرے بیٹے برائی اگر رائی کے دانہ برابر ہو پھر وہ پتھر کی چٹان میں یا آسمان میں یا زمین میں کہیں ہو (ف۲۶) اللہ اسے لے آئے گا (ف۲۷) بیشک اللہ ہر باریکی کا جاننے والا خبردار ہے (ف۲۸)
31:16 يَٰبُنَىَّ أَقِمِ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَأْمُرْ بِٱلْمَعْرُوفِ وَٱنْهَ عَنِ ٱلْمُنكَرِ وَٱصْبِرْ عَلَىٰ مَآ أَصَابَكَ إِنَّ ذَٰلِكَ مِنْ عَزْمِ ٱلْأُمُورِ ٧١
31:17
Ahmed Ali
O my son, fulfil your moral obligations, bid what is known to be right and forbid what is wrong, and bear with patience what befalls you. These are indeed acts of courage and resolve.
Shakir
O my son! keep up prayer and enjoin the good and forbid the evil, and bear patiently that which befalls you; surely these acts require courage;
Ahmed Raza Khan
اے میرے بیٹے! نماز برپا رکھ اور اچھی بات کا حکم دے اور بری بات سے منع کر اور جو افتاد تجھ پر پڑے (ف۲۹) اس پر صبر کر، بیشک یہ ہمت کے کام ہیں (ف۳۰)
31:17 وَلَا تُصَعِّرْ خَدَّكَ لِلنَّاسِ وَلَا تَمْشِ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ مَرَحًا إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يُحِبُّ كُلَّ مُخْتَالٍ فَخُورٍ ٨١
31:18
Ahmed Ali
Do not hold men in contempt, and do not walk with hauteur on the earth. Verily God does not like the proud and boastful.
Shakir
And do not turn your face away from people in contempt, nor go about in the land exulting overmuch; surely Allah does not love any self-conceited boaster;
Ahmed Raza Khan
اور کسی سے بات کرنے میں (ف۳۱) اپنا رخسارہ کج نہ کر (ف۳۲) اور زمین میں اِتراتا نہ چل، بیشک اللہ کو نہیں بھاتا کوئی اِتراتا فخر کرتا،
31:18 وَٱقْصِدْ فِى مَشْيِكَ وَٱغْضُضْ مِن صَوْتِكَ إِنَّ أَنكَرَ ٱلْأَصْوَٰتِ لَصَوْتُ ٱلْحَمِيرِ ٩١
31:19
Ahmed Ali
Be moderate in your bearing, and keep your voice low. Surely the most repulsive voice is the donkey´s."
Shakir
And pursue the right course in your going about and lower your voice; surely the most hateful of voices is braying of the asses.
Ahmed Raza Khan
اور میانہ چال چل (ف۳۳) اور اپنی آواز کچھ پست کر (ف۳۴) بیشک سب آوازوں میں بری آواز، آواز گدھے کی (ف۳۵)
